Smart Title Tag Strategies Have Additional Benefits

By Matthew Elshaw

I've written many times about the SEO impact of title tags, and their importance has even been confirmed by Google. In this post, I thought I'd cover some more advanced title tag strategies that can have additional benefits besides just improving your ranking!

1. Don't forget the basics
The foundation of strong rankings lies in part with your title tag. So it's important to remember the basics and ensure you include the key search terms you're targeting in the title. Below is an example that helps us rank number 1 for "Submit free":

2. Try including your company phone number
If you have a strong sales team, or are looking for increased leads from your site, including your phone number in the title tag can be an interesting test. It will allow you to get phone calls from the search results page, without users having to visit your site! Eg:

3. Target local searches
If local searches (keyword based queries with a location) are critical to your business, including your location can help your site to rank strongly. This strategy is commonly used by location critical businesses like hotels for example:

Need Inside and Outside the Box - Learn More

4. Include your (low) prices
If you're operating in a highly price sensitive market, or offer lower prices than your competitors, adding a price to your title tag can encourage visitors to click on your listing.

However, you must be careful with this tactic. Only mention your lowest prices (eg: starting from $10) and ensure that you do have an appealing price point. If your price is above most of your competitors, this may have a negative impact.

There you have it! If any of these seem appealing to your business, I'd recommend testing them for a few weeks and make sure to let us know how they perform. Thanks to SEJ for writing about this!
